Before departure to Nicaragua, mission team leaders work with One by One missionaries to develop an itinerary for ministry. A key factor in developing the itinerary includes the talents of team members. Ministry is strategic, based on collaboration with local leaders and building upon the ministry of previous teams. The groundwork for a team’s ministry is completed weeks before the team arrives in Nicaragua.

What will we do?
The average length for a trip is 8 days. Your schedules will vary depending on the day of the week of your team’s arrival, and the type of ministry your team will be performing. We can structure a trip based on the specific talents of your individual teams. Saturday is the day we hold weekly services for our kids, and we ask that all teams participate in this service. This can range from playing with the kids before and after the service to giving a personal testimony. Most weekdays will be used for working in an area of ministry that is chosen by your team. On the final day before departure we encourage teams to take a day of enjoyment and leisure before returning home.

Our current outreach strategy has us focused on eight neighborhoods in Nicaragua and the Refuge Project. All our programs and/or projects will be geared towards meeting the spiritual or physical needs of these communities.

Our short-term ministry opportunities include:

Children & Youth Services:
One by One believes that the message of Jesus Christ is sacred, but that our method of sharing that message must change to effectively reach children and youth. Through One by One you will have the chance to share the message of Christ in a variety of exciting ways such as: big event activities, dramas, testimonies, puppet shows, exciting games, and sermons.

General Outreach:
We will also set up outreaches to street kids, street ladies, feeding the hungry, mechanics teams, missionary care, and Nicaraguan local church connections. These trips will be designed specifically for each team and may or may not be available during the time you are interested in coming.

Building:
Through One by One we will offer building projects that will be customized for each teams skill and time frame. Building projects will include construction of housing, playground equipment, remodeling/improving church facilities, building basketball courts, and the construction of the One by One headquarters in Nicaragua. Building projects will be determined by the current need at the time.

What is the cost for a short-term trip?
There are two separate costs for short-term teams partnering with One by One.

Personal Expenses:
The team will have personal expenses while in Nicaragua such as housing, meals, and transportation in Nicaragua.

Team Ministry Expenses:
The second cost regards the team’s personal expenses. Since One by One is funded solely through generous monthly supporters, we ask short-term teams to fund their specified projects while in Nicaragua. Team projects will include building/construction costs and/or outreach program costs.

For an average week in Nicaragua the cost could range from US$350 to US$550 per person; however, cost could fluctuate depending on length of stay and the team’s desired activities while in Nicaragua. These costs do not include airfare, translators, costs for food while traveling or on your free day, or gifts. The total cost per team will be set up months before arrival, and will be based on the scheduled activities you’ve requested.

Cost will be determined by the team’s desired ministry activities, and the exact amount will be determined months before the team arrives.
